Tomorrow, my husband, Mike’s birthday, will mark 9 years since I’ve had a drink. Not one sip of alcohol has gone down the gullet in 9 years. Hard to believe, but there we have it. A choice made and stuck with. A streak not wanting to be broken. The mission is 10 years. But, what is a person to do at 10 years, celebrate with a couple drinks? I’ve made “it”, let’s party! Seems foolhardy. On the weekend, Mike came home for a friends’ gathering. A guy thing with his fun friends who I used love hanging out with having drinks. I said to him “Maybe we should have a party, for old times sake, invite them all over, you know, do the thing.” He looked at me, as he sipped a beer, shook his head and said “You wouldn’t be able to do what you want if you did that.” Stay the course, is what he was saying. Sometimes, it gets long in the tooth, but the moment passes and the clear head never gets old!
