Saturday StairFit

September. Climb # 7

#committed

Our first stair climb was on Saturday April 2, 2022 at 4pm. Said climb is a monthly fundraiser for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB). A committed group has pledged to meet at the UBC Tower Stairs on the first Saturday of the month, till the end of year. Climbers do repeats of the steps to the beach for an hour and if wished, can contribute to the Simple Steps virtual Food Bank store after the climb. The GVFB has on-line grocery and shoppers can choose what they want to buy or simply make a donation. The GVFB’s emphasis is on healthy, whole foods as much as possible, with a focus on seniors and children health. It is a cause close to my heart. The monthly climb involves a 400 plus step navigation to the sea. Climbers who started out in April have doubled their stair repeats and some even more than that. It is fantastic to see their consistent effort paying dividends. Stronger by day! Some months we carry load up and down the steps in the form of sandbags, rocks or weighted vests. Once, our goal was to complete the stair repeats breathing only through our nose. It was hard at first, but with some internal dialogue we got in the swing of it. Last Saturday was beautiful and hot. The water looked amazingly inviting and was clear to the bottom, rare in these parts. One climber jumped in. I followed suit, in tights and all and floated around for a solid while. It. Was. Great!
