Minute Rest

Lord Byng pool at night. 8pm public swim. Local watering hole nestled in the neighbourhood.

The minute rest was what made tonight’s swim workout doable. Hit Byng Pool for WOD below:

10 rounds, each for time of:
Swim 50 yards
Rest 1 minute

I recorded total time which was 27:00 minutes even. I am a self taught swimmer and it shows. I rely on a front crawl. I learned to swim in hotel pools on the drive between Vancouver to LA as a child. We moved here from LA when I was 3 years old and for the first 10 years we went back to visit family on a regular basis, often by car. My cousins lived in a Beverly Hills rancher with a great pool that let me carry on with my swimming practice at each trip. My cousins kept a kosher home. No milk, diet soda with meals. They had such good food in their house. My uncle owned a deli Izzy’s Deli to the Stars in Santa Monica and his pastrami sandwiches were stellar as was the Matzo Ball soup. I loved the deli and wish I could go back for one more meal but it shuttered its’ doors last May. It is hard to get my mind around it. Writing about it now makes it more real. I knew about the closing but had not really taken it in what it represents in my life. I must get down to LA to see Uncle Izzy while I can.

Cousin’s pool. Left to right - my bro, cousin Heidi, my Dad, cousin Rodney, circa sometime in the 70s.
