Lay it on the Line
Do you do that? Lay it on the line with people? I haven’t found it a particularly good strategy. It takes a lot of gumption and is a fine art. Does it actually ever need to be done? Situations can go sideways. Sometimes, best to just take it in stride and move along. Per Jocko, “noted.” Clearly, situation dependent. Sometimes in life hard conversations are a necessity. I’ve talked about it at the CBH a couple times, “I don’t know what to say .. beginning difficult conversations” was the presentation offered with strategies at hand. I am a soft peddler. Preference is to focus on positives, highlighting what is working and coming at the problem from a framework of “How can we make it better?” “What can we learn from what is not working?” Ask the person for their help. Are they willing to work with you to improve the situation? Sometimes, people do not want to work on issues and it is a done deal, no matter what you may wish. In that case, the person to lay it on the line with is yourself! These thoughts came from listening to Lay it on the Line (1982), a classic Triumph tune while cleaning house this afternoon. Eventually, could take no more decluttering and schlepping and met Dauntless for a walk around Dunbar. Fresh air! Such beautiful streets and houses to be seen. I’ve been working out with Dauntless for the last 6 years. She is an Unstoppable buddy and CrossFit Open champ!
